Jesus’ invitation in Matthew 11:28-29 was to come to him and to learn from him. In John 6:44-46 Jesus explains that we come to him through the invitation of God the Father and as we listen and learn we come to know and understand more of who Jesus is.
Our relationship with God is a one where, at his never ending invitation; we enjoy a journey of discovery and learning about who God is, His heart, desires and His plans; which by His grace includes US! He’s taken some pretty radical measures to make that all possible, through the sacrifice, death and resurrection of Jesus.
The purpose of learning is NOT just for the accumulation of knowledge (which tends to enlarge the space between our ears!) but so we can act, fulfill and journey in obedience to what we know is the Father’s desire as we live in relationship with him. (Titus 3:14, John 8:28)
Listening….learning….obediance;
centered around our relationship with God.
To be like Christ, to be real followers of Christ…we have to be a people who LOVE these 3 things.
We’re not alone in this though, and we haven’t been left empty handed!
God is with us!
We have the Holy Spirit. (John 16:13-15)
We have God’s Word (Colossians 3:16)
We have each other…the Body of Christ. (Romans 12)
We have the testimony of the saints (Philippians 4:9)Their stories and writings of their journeys, their experiences, and the benefit of the fruit of their prayers for us (Revelation 8:3-4) meant for our encouragement, inspiration and strengthening.
