small groups

Authentic relationship is one of our highest values.

Jesus tells us that the greatest command we’ve been given, is to love God and love each other. He’s also gave us a new command and that was to love each other, as He has loved us. In doing this not only do we walk deep in to God’s heart for whole relationship, but the example of our love for each other will prove to the world that we are followers of Jesus and in living this authentically we serve as an example of His incredible love for us and the world.

Our Desire for Small Groups

We believe that gathering and connecting in small groups is one of the greatest ways for us to grow in relationship with God and each other. Small Groups help foster personal connections and caring, provide avenues for personal growth and spiritual development, strengthen the fabric of our community at FLV and ultimately assists us in fulfilling Jesus’ heart and command to us in addition to communicating the heart of the gospel to the world; that God loves us and desires a restored and whole relationship with us.

Our desire is that Small Groups will provide a safe and caring community for people to share joys and sorrows and to delve more deeply into the relationship with God, those around and questions of life. Experience the transformation as small communitites of people seek to understand the words of Jesus and then through the empowering of the Holy Spirit, carry them out.

What Constitutes a Small Group @ FLV?

The foundation to this discussion is found throughout Acts. Acts 2:42-46 as an example, outlines a number of characteristics that help describe these small gatherings in the days of the early church. They are:

teaching/learning

sharing meals, communion … even possessions

worship

prayer

While many conversations exist on the value and nature of church structure, this New Testament account shows what the Apostle Luke considered to be the “core characteristics” of a gathered community of believers.

A Small Group is a structured gathering of followers of Jesus in which:

  • They are trained to follow Jesus
  • They engage in prayer and worship together
  • They support one another, and
  • the share meals with one another
